WEEK 1 ~ Introduction to SOCIAL
ENTREPRENEURSHIP & The METACRISIS

Social entrepreneurship 1.0 is an approach by individuals, groups, start-up companies or entrepreneurs, in which they develop, fund and implement solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues. This concept may be applied to a wide range of organizations, which vary in size, aims, and beliefs ~ Wikipedia

Social entrepreneurship 2.0: Tackling the root causes of problems, recognizing the interconnected nature of global challenges and the need for systemic change, while incorporating insights from the past. It requires a shift in mindset, a focus on collaboration, and a willingness to challenge existing paradigms.

This shift moves from simply doing good to creating systems that are inherently good

Social Entrepreneur Mind Map

Social Entrepreneur 1.0 concert vs
Social Entrepreneur 2.0 concert

The examination of the two types of concerts—the traditional charity-driven model and a regenerative systems-aware alternative—highlights a shift from isolated impact to systemic thinking. Traditional concerts, while often applauded for donating proceeds to local communities, can impose significant environmental, social, and economic costs, such as carbon emissions, resource strain, pollution, and community disruption. These events typically focus on short-term financial benefits without addressing the systemic roots of the challenges they create or exacerbate. In contrast, a regenerative music festival embodies Social Entrepreneurship 2.0 by tackling these issues holistically. It incorporates carbon-neutral practices, zero-waste initiatives, community-led planning, and revenue allocation for long-term systemic improvements like infrastructure and sustainability projects. This model demonstrates how entertainment can evolve from being extractive to inherently regenerative, balancing immediate enjoyment with enduring, positive transformation for communities and the environment.
